INDEPENDENT REVIEW OF DARE COMMUNITY PROGRAMMES
DARE to be You and DARE to Move On
In January 2009, an independent report was commissioned to review and evaluate DARE to be You and DARE to Move on. This review evaluated current programme goals, materials, practice and processes of both programmes.
The DARE Foundation has an ongoing commitment to ensure the DARE programmes are meeting their aims and objectives.
Nikki Evans, Director, Bachelor of Social Work Programme at the University of Canterbury undertook the project.
Nikki provided us with 3 reports, which can be accessed by clicking on the link below:
• Summary Report: DARE to be You
• Summary Report: DARE to Move On

• Overall summary of the Report
- 2009 Significant Other Evaluation Form
- 2009 Participant Evaluation Form Participant
- 2009 Parent Consent Form
- 2009 Facilitator Questionnaire
• The report provides evidence based research for the content of the programmes.
• It highlights the strengths and supports the principles that underline the DARE philosophy.
• This report provides the much needed independent evaluation that has been lacking to date.
• It gives positive recommendations for continued programme development and possible new programmes in the future.
The DFNZ believe this review is a vital tool to enable the DARE Community programmes to reach a higher level and a wider audience. It confirms that these programmes are fantastic and offer a wonderful opportunity for young people and community facilitators to work together to create better life skills for some of our most vulnerable young people.
As a result of this review and in consulation with Victoria University, we have revised our evaluation forms to be used in the programme. The new forms can be assessed by clicking on the form.
A recommendation was the use of multi-sensory activities within the programmes. For copies of these activities, please contact Janice on dare001@dare.org.nz or phone 04 238 3400.
